Delaware Medical Insurance

Delaware has a vibrant community of health care facilities, and it also provides sufficient coverage for a large portion of its population. With one of the lowest uninsured rates in the country, you may think that Delaware has few things to worry about in the realm of health and medical insurance. However, Delaware's ranking in home health care still leaves much room for improvement.

At the same time, 12 percent of the population remains uninsured, and Governor Matthew Denn has announced steps to improve the coverage for the lowest income residents of Delaware, especially children. Gov. Denn plans to help target school children by using state school lunch data to target children that would qualify for Medicaid or SCHIP.

Health Insurance Costs in Delaware

Costs, though, still remain about as high as the rest of the country, and in order to maintain full coverage, many residents are turning to private health insurance. The fact that Delaware ranks highly in preventative health care may be testament to the fact that its uninsured rate is so low. As more and more residents become insured, and preventative health care steps up, the state of Delaware may become one of the country's healthiest states.
